One of the best parts of design is seeing the evolution process. My latest client, David Wilds Patton, an expert lighting designer asked me for a logo re-design. His previous logo was a semblance of type. The new one was to incorporate an image.

Now this is where the tricky part comes in. He did not know exactly what he wanted. However, he was able to give some prompts: light, shadow, circle, three-dimensional. ┬áThis assignment brought me back to the undergraduate days of UCSD- all those conceptual prompts with open-ended answers. It’s so frustrating to come up with an idea with no boundaries. All that out-of-the-box thinking was one giant mental exercise… to this very moment.

I will let the images do the talking themselves. The beginning is a far cry from the end result. But at the end of it all we were very happy!

Next step is syncing all the print materials! Always fun to the see the brand spread across all mediums. Another update will be order when the design is finalized on all business cards, letterheads, and more.
